Otto is a sweet, sensitive little guy who spent the first several years of his life with a family. When circumstances changed, he unexpectedly found himself out on his own, potentially with an unhoused person. It took his foster family a couple of days to win his trust and safely catch him on the streets. He was taken to the shelter, initially but really became fearful and shut down and was deemed RESCUE ONLY. To make matters worse, Otto caught a URI, and had to spend a month there while a plan was formulated for him. Since then, Otto has gotten better, been neutered, and is finally getting the care, patience, and resources he needs. His personality is starting to shine—and there’s a pretty special little dog underneath all those nerves! Otto loves being outside and is quite the speedy walker, so he’d be thrilled to find an active family who will let him tag along on adventures. He’s also discovering how much fun it is to be a dog! He’s learning to play with toys and recently figured out fetch, which he’s pretty proud of. Otto is still working through some things from his past. He has separation anxiety and hasn’t learned to love his crate just yet. He’s also sensitive and needs time to decide that new people and places are safe. Certain men can make him especially nervous, and when frightened, he may become defensive and ask for space. Otto needs a patient, understanding family who won’t rush him and will allow him to build trust at his own pace. Once he knows he’s safe, his sweet side comes out. When Otto loves you, you’ll know it—he’s a loyal little shadow who loves giving kisses and staying close to the people he trusts. He isn’t looking for someone who expects a perfect dog on Day One. He’s looking for someone willing to give him the patience, structure, training, and love he needs to keep becoming the dog he’s meant to be.
