A NYC estimate for a dog this size and coat. Excludes the adoption fee and anything unexpected.
Fully grown at about 7 lbs.
Hi , I am Bessie! I may be 10 years old, but don't let that number fool you. I have the energy, playfulness, and enthusiasm of a puppy, especially when toys are involved. Throw a ball, squeaky toy (racoons are my jam!), or basically anything I can chase, and you'll see my eyes light up. I even know how to sit politely while I wait for you to throw it again. When I'm not busy playing, I'm happy being your shadow. Whether we're walking through busy city streets, relaxing at home, or running errands, I'm happiest by your side. One of my favorite things about myself? Nothing seems to faze me. Loud trucks, sirens, crowds, construction noise... I take New York City in stride and make an excellent walking companion. I'm confident, curious, and always ready for an adventure. I also happen to be a bit of a social butterfly. I get along wonderfully with my foster family's resident dog and I am convinced every person we pass on the street is a potential new best friend. As much as I love to play, I am equally talented at relaxing. After a good walk or play session, you'll find me curled up next to you on the couch, soaking up cuddles and enjoying the simple pleasure of being close to my people. I can switch from playful puppy mode to cozy companion mode in an instant. Netflix and chill, sounds like a perfect Friday night to me! My foster family says I'm the sweetest girl ever, and honestly, I think they might be right. If you're looking for a dog who has all the fun, joy, and energy of a younger pup, combined with the easygoing nature and loyalty that come with age, I might just be your perfect match. Bessie is approximately 10y 0m 16d old and is fully grown at 7.2 pounds. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done. Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble. It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog. This dog is available for adoption through Muddy Paws Rescue. If you're interested in adopting, the first thing you should do is begin the registration process at www.muddypawsrescue.org. If you are already a registered adopter with Muddy Paws Rescue, please email us at adoptionmeetings@muddypawsrescue.org.
This dog's breed isn't known, so here's general guidance for mixes.
🧠 Temperament
I'm confident, curious, and always ready for an adventure. Every dog is an individual — temperament depends far more on this dog's history and personality than on breed.
🎾 Exercise
Whether we're walking through busy city streets, relaxing at home, or running errands, I'm happiest by your side. Most adult dogs do well with 30-60 minutes of walking a day plus play and sniffing time.
✂️ Grooming
Brush regularly, bathe as needed, keep nails trimmed and ears clean.
🏙️ In a NYC apartment
I take New York City in stride and make an excellent walking companion. Ask the rescue about leash manners, elevator and stair comfort, alone-time tolerance, and whether the dog settles in a small space.
