Milo - 2 years, 20lbs, Chiweenie, Neutered Our Team Says: "This pup was rescued from a hoarding situation in PR - involving about 40 dogs. Due to this these pups are on the shyer side and need patient people who will give them time to get used to normal life. They are very sweet dogs: just need more time and patience. Milo needs a home with a yard - he only likes to do his business off leash and where he feels safe. He's a great walker though and not really scacred of the city, which is really awesome. Their Foster Family Says: "Milo is gradually adjusting to the city and I think he'll continue blossoming into a sweet, active dog with the support of other loving humans and canine buddies. His two greatest loves: sniffing dog pee outdoors (like REALLY huffing it) and curling up into a cinnamon roll in a pile of blankets. At home, he is mellow and observant. He likes to be in the same room as his humans, but he isn't (yet?) a snuggler and prefers his personal space. He hasn't taken an interest in toys, preferring instead to get comfy on any soft surface and watch the action around him. Outdoors, he is still a Nervous Nelly, keeping his tail tucked and remaining on high alert. He does pretty well on the leash, but if he gets spooked (shadows, rats, etc.) he will try to dart. We've had trouble getting him comfortable enough outdoors to go to the bathroom outside consistently (even with roasted chicken as his high-value reward); he typically holds it while we're outdoors and then goes on our balcony once we're home. He'd love a private outdoor space and a patient human who can continue working on potty training with him. He sleeps in a crate through the night without a peep, and does well home alone. He's a sweet, gentle dog who just needs some more time to adjust." ENERGY LEVEL Medium – Needs a daily 60-90 minute morning walk or window of quick paced exercise in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Otherwise pretty chill indoors. Also needs significant opportunities to socialize outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) TOLERANCE TO CITY Adjusting to the city – Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well in quiet areas and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue). Would prefer a home in a calmer part of the city or the suburbs. POTTY TRAINING Yes - just needs a yard :) COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS Wallflower – Very shy with new people and takes a while to warm up. Afraid when unfamiliar people try to say hi on the street, hides or shrinks back when new people visit the home. BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision) Maybe for age 12 and up – Is either big and energetic (okay with kids big enough not to get knocked down) or a little skittish (could be comfortable with older children that can be extra gentle) SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGS Mostly – Generally good with other dogs but may be selective (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example) — Hesitant around dogs on the street, typically retreats but occasionally shows curiosity RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.) Yes - okay for a home with cats, doesn't mind them MOUTHY BEHAVIOR Past this stage– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in their mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime SEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.) Past this stage – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or exhibit destructive behavior when you leave the apartment or house. LEASH MANNERS Getting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild pu
