He is a small, graceful dog with a sleek, athletic build and an air of quiet elegance. It has a slender body, long, fine legs, and a deep chest that gives it the appearance of a miniature Greyhound. Its head is narrow and refined, with a long muzzle and large, expressive eyes that often give a gentle, soulful look.
The coat is very short, smooth, and glossy, lying close to the body and revealing the dog’s delicate bone structure. Common colors include black, blue (gray), fawn, red, cream, and various combinations. The ears are typically folded back in a “rose” shape but may lift slightly when the dog is alert.
Bold and deeply bonded to one or two people. Chihuahuas are often wary of strangers and can be snappy if they were never taught that hands are safe — early gentle socialization matters.
Low — short walks and indoor play are plenty.
Extremely apartment-friendly and easy to carry on the subway. They get cold fast and need a sweater most of the winter.
