Meet Sheppard 🤍 Sheppard is the grandpa we all need in our lives. At 8 years old, this Great Pyrenees/Lab mix has officially entered his “why rush when we could simply enjoy ourselves?” era. Shep is looking for someone who appreciates the finer things in life: long naps, leisurely strolls, soft snacks, car rides with the windows down, and spending an afternoon doing absolutely nothing together. Life with Sheppard feels like a Sunday every day. He is an incredibly mellow, gentle, well-mannered guy who has spent his whole life as an indoor dog. He is housebroken, crate trained, and walks beautifully on leash. And when we say beautifully, we mean it. Shep strolls beside you on such a loose leash that you may genuinely forget you’re holding one. He’s in no hurry. He’ll get there when he gets there, and somehow, when you’re walking with him, that starts to feel like a pretty good philosophy. Once outside, Shep takes his time sniffing the neighborhood and making sure everyone knows he’s been there. Then he’s perfectly happy to head home and settle back in. His potty-training credentials are impeccable, and his bladder may actually be made of steel. His idea of adventure isn’t scaling a mountain. It’s being wherever you are. Sheppard LOVES the car and will happily ride for hours, stretched out in the back seat with the windows cracked, sniffing the air and enjoying the scenery. Bring a book to the park? He’ll lie beside you. Want to sit on the stoop and watch the world go by? Perfect. Sunday afternoon nap? He has been training his entire life for this. He may not get the zoomies these days, but his tail starts wagging the second he sees his people. And don’t let his distinguished gray face fool you: for the right high-value treat, Grandpa still knows how to sit, lie down, and give you his paw. Sheppard previously lived in a home and was surrendered when his family moved and couldn’t take him along. He has been described as wonderful with dogs, cats, and kids (currenlty living with two cats), and apparently loves cats so much that he has historically preferred sleeping with his feline friends over his humans. A 90-pound grandpa with a cat best friend? Come on. Shep isn’t looking for someone to keep him busy. He’s looking for someone to let him be part of their life. Someone whose errands he can supervise from the back seat, whose feet he can sleep beside, whose walks he can turn into slow little adventures, and who won’t mind hitting snooze. Sheppard has already figured out something the rest of us are still working on: slow down, stay close to the people you love, and enjoy the small stuff. Now he just needs someone to enjoy it with. ❤️ Sheppard is approximately 8y 0m 20d old and is fully grown at 87 pounds. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done. Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble.
