Meet Taz! A true New Yorker, borough-born and bred, Taz is a 9+ year-old gentleman who fully embraces a calm, unbothered approach to life. At home, you’ll often find him snoozing (and snoring… loudly), or following you around in hopes for some extra scritches or some table scraps. Everyone who has met Taz has immediately fallen in love with his lopsided ears and silly eyes that give him a bit of a chameleon vibe. He may take a couple days to open up and trust new people, but once he’s yours and you are his, he opens up into a goofy, affectionate, and loving good boy. He’s a mellow, low-key guy who enjoys his space and appreciates a calm, predictable environment. While he’s mostly chill, he’ll occasionally show off a playful side with a quick burst of tail-chasing energy or trotting around for a home inspection before returning to his regularly scheduled lounging. On walks, Taz generally moves at an easy pace on a loose leash and is happiest when the world around him stays respectful of his personal bubble. He doesn’t love when people rush into his space or other dogs get too close, so a home that can advocate for him and his space will help him feel most comfortable. He’s wonderfully house-trained, taking care of business promptly outside. He’s also very well crate-trained, sometimes even strolling into his crate himself for some nap time. Even when left home alone, he’s able to settle quickly. If you’re looking for an independent but affectionate companion with a touch of grumpy charm (think Carl from Up!), Taz might just be your guy! Taz is approximately 9y 5m 18d old and is fully grown at 53.6 pounds. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done. Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble. It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog. This dog is available for adoption through Muddy Paws Rescue. If you're interested in adopting, the first thing you should do is begin the registration process at www.muddypawsrescue.org. If you are already a registered adopter with Muddy Paws Rescue, please email us at adoptionmeetings@muddypawsrescue.org.

Mixed / Unknown breed

This dog's breed isn't known, so here's general guidance for mixes.

🧠 Temperament

He may take a couple days to open up and trust new people, but once he’s yours and you are his, he opens up into a goofy, affectionate, and loving…. Every dog is an individual — temperament depends far more on this dog's history and personality than on breed.

🎾 Exercise

On walks, Taz generally moves at an easy pace on a loose leash and is happiest when the world around him stays respectful of his personal bubble. Most adult dogs do well with 30-60 minutes of walking a day plus play and sniffing time.

✂️ Grooming

Brush regularly, bathe as needed, keep nails trimmed and ears clean.

🏙️ In a NYC apartment

He’s also very well crate-trained, sometimes even strolling into his crate himself for some nap time. Ask the rescue about leash manners, elevator and stair comfort, alone-time tolerance, and whether the dog settles in a small space.
