Our Chihuahua mix puppy, Augie, is playful, outgoing, and ridiculously cute. His owner surrendered him to a kill shelter and, once we met him, we weren't about to let anything happen to him! Augie loves meeting new people, playing with dog friends, and crashing for an afternoon nap when the fun is over. He loves kids and is ready to grow up with a family of his own. [Note that Augie is still too young to be neutered, so the adopter must commit to having him neutered at 6 months.]

Chihuahua

🧠 Temperament

Bold and deeply bonded to one or two people. Chihuahuas are often wary of strangers and can be snappy if they were never taught that hands are safe — early gentle socialization matters.

🎾 Exercise

Low — short walks and indoor play are plenty.

✂️ Grooming

Easy for both smooth and long coats. Dental care is the real priority; small breeds are prone to tooth disease.

🏙️ In an LA apartment

Extremely apartment-friendly and easy to carry on the subway. They get cold fast and need a sweater most of the winter.
