Jangle - 8 months & 6lbs, Chi Mix, Neutered Expected full grown size around 8lbs This puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Thier Foster Parent Says: J"angle is the sweetest little love bug who is happiest when he’s curled up right next to his person (or, more accurately, trying to find the coziest possible spot on you!). He’s incredibly loving, curious, and eager to experience everything around him. He can be a little unsure of new things at first, but with some reassurance, his curiosity and bravery quickly take over. He takes the subway like a total champ and is even able to fall asleep on the train sometimes. Jangle tends to bark at other dogs or kids but its only because he gets very excited and feels the need to say hi. He has always been very gentle and sweet when greeting kids. He’s starting to discover that toys are pretty fun, and recently learned how to play fetch. Jangle is still very much a puppy and is figuring out all the basics, including potty training and walking on a leash. He’s made huge progress with potty training, but still needs frequent breaks and a little patience. He also loves his person a lot and is still learning that being by himself is okay, he’s definitely the kind of puppy who wants to be wherever you are! Everything is still new and exciting to Jangle, and he’s just beginning to figure out the world around him. For someone who has the patience and time to dedicate to puppy training, Jangle will reward you with an incredibly happy, curious, affectionate little companion who is a giant love bug." Level of dog ownership experience required: INTERMEDIATE – As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy level: MEDIUM – Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) TOLERANCE TO CITY City pup – Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, may as well have been born here. Potty trained? Working on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks
This dog's breed isn't known, so here's general guidance for mixes.
🧠 Temperament
He has always been very gentle and sweet when greeting kids. Every dog is an individual — temperament depends far more on this dog's history and personality than on breed.
🎾 Exercise
Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains…. Most adult dogs do well with 30-60 minutes of walking a day plus play and sniffing time.
✂️ Grooming
Brush regularly, bathe as needed, keep nails trimmed and ears clean.
🏙️ In a NYC apartment
Jangle is still very much a puppy and is figuring out all the basics, including potty training and walking on a leash. Ask the rescue about leash manners, elevator and stair comfort, alone-time tolerance, and whether the dog settles in a small space.
