She's a wonderful dog - very sweet, fun and but her nervous system can't handle it here. If you live out of the city - this girl is a great fit for you. Starfuit daydreams about having a yard to call her own and a calm trail to walk." Thier Foster Parent Says: "Starfruit is a total love bug. She takes a minute to warm up to new people, but once she knows you, she'll be all over you!! Her favorite place is right next to me on the couch, and she'll roll over for belly rubs any chance she gets. Her favorite hobby is destroying her Lambchop toy, so just keep an eye out to make sure she doesn't swallow any squeakers or plastic pieces. She gets the zoomies three or four times a day, and they will make you fall in love with her! Inside the home she's a dream: reliably potty trained, comfortable in her crate, fine being left alone, and she gets along well with other dogs. City noise and activity startle her, which makes her anxious, so she prefers to keep her outdoor time short. She does much better in open, grassy spaces away from the hustle and bustle, and I think she'd truly blossom in a quieter home where she can relax." Level of dog ownership experience required: INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy Level: MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) POTTY TRAINING: Yes, few or no accidents COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS: Wallflower - shy with strangers, takes a second to warm up to new people. BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN: Okay for a home with kids aged 12 and up SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGS: Mostly. She tends to be neutral toward or ignore most dogs on the street, but gets curious She's still a little territorial. It's mostly around toys, and she can be a bit protective of me when I'm on the couch. She does respond well to correction, though it's definitely not mastered yet. That said, she's come a long way living with Scout. She's learned to play much better and is way more confident approaching dogs on the street. I think she'd do well with another dog as long as her new family keeps an eye on toys and furniture at first and stays consistent with correction. Probably best as a SOLO dog household but having a sibling not out of the question. BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS: Not sure MOUTHY BEHAVIOR: Past this stage with furniture and belongings. She does destroy her toys thoroughly, so she needs supervision to keep her from eating plastic parts or squeakers. SEPARATION ANXIETY: Past this stage LEASH MANNERS: Getting the hang of it CUDDLE BUG LEVEL: High JUMPING ON PEOPLE: Listens to correction. She never jumps on strangers, but she does jump on the people she loves when she's excited, and she responds to "Gentle." CRATE TRAINING: Yep/mostly Medical status: Healthy as far as we know.
