Breed Guess: Merle Chihuahua Mix (complete with a signature little underbite!) Age: 7 years young Size: Small Max is a distinguished, well-mannered gentleman who came to us from the Queens Animal Care Center. It’s clear he was deeply loved and well-cared for in his previous home, and he’s been an absolute star in his foster home ever since! The Good Stuff: House-Trained & Quiet: Fully potty-trained, doesn't bark, and handles sleeping in a separate room like a total champ with zero separation anxiety. Low-Key & Cat-Friendly: Ignores cats entirely! On walks, he’s polite on the leash, curious about other dogs without reacting, and mostly interested in sniffing out the neighborhood news. Master Snuggler: Loves burrowing under blankets, nesting in his donut bed, and curling up right next to you for movie nights. Handling & Boundaries: Max has a unique, deformed paw that causes overgrown nails, making paw-handling sensitive for him. He communicates clearly with a low grumble when he feels uncomfortable about his feet. Because he knows how to politely state his boundaries, he will thrive in a mature, adult-only or older-teen home where his people let him initiate affection and respect his body language. If you’re looking for a quiet, affectionate, low-maintenance cuddle bug, Max is ready to steal your heart! Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Will need to be neutered after completing his course of antibiotics at either Queens ACC or Long Island City ASPCA. If adopted before his appointment, his adopters will be responsible for transporting him to/from. To apply for Max, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org

Chihuahua

🧠 Temperament

Low-Key & Cat-Friendly: Ignores cats entirely!. Bold and deeply bonded to one or two people.

🎾 Exercise

On walks, he’s polite on the leash, curious about other dogs without reacting, and mostly interested in sniffing out the neighborhood news. Low — short walks and indoor play are plenty.

✂️ Grooming

Easy for both smooth and long coats. Dental care is the real priority; small breeds are prone to tooth disease.

🏙️ In a NYC apartment

The Good Stuff: House-Trained & Quiet: Fully potty-trained, doesn't bark, and handles sleeping in a separate room like a total champ with zero…. Extremely apartment-friendly and easy to carry on the subway.
