A NYC estimate for a dog this size and coat. Excludes the adoption fee and anything unexpected.
Fully grown at about 13 lbs.
Meet Gia, your future little shadow! Gia is a sweet, affectionate girl who would happily spend her entire day by your side. She is a serious cuddle bug, loves treats, and has even mastered the art of jumping straight into your arms when she’s excited to see you! Gia is calm and easygoing around the house and loves other dogs and children. She is also tolerant of cats. On walks, she does well on leash, although she can occasionally get hyper focused and pull. Gia is still working on her confidence when left alone. She may become anxious when her person leaves, but she is able to calm herself and will often wait patiently by the door for them to return. She would love a family willing to continue helping her learn that being alone is safe. Potty training is also a work in progress. Gia does potty outside, but she still has occasional accidents indoors. And one thing you should know about Gia: this girl can JUMP! She’s known for launching herself right into her foster mom’s arms. Gia is approximately 8y 2m 16d old and is fully grown at 13 pounds. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done. Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble. It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog. This dog is available for adoption through Muddy Paws Rescue. If you're interested in adopting, the first thing you should do is begin the registration process at www.muddypawsrescue.org. If you are already a registered adopter with Muddy Paws Rescue, please email us at adoptionmeetings@muddypawsrescue.org.
This dog's breed isn't known, so here's general guidance for mixes.
🧠 Temperament
Gia is a sweet, affectionate girl who would happily spend her entire day by your side. Every dog is an individual — temperament depends far more on this dog's history and personality than on breed.
🎾 Exercise
On walks, she does well on leash, although she can occasionally get hyper focused and pull. Most adult dogs do well with 30-60 minutes of walking a day plus play and sniffing time.
✂️ Grooming
Brush regularly, bathe as needed, keep nails trimmed and ears clean.
🏙️ In a NYC apartment
Gia is still working on her confidence when left alone. Ask the rescue about leash manners, elevator and stair comfort, alone-time tolerance, and whether the dog settles in a small space.
