A NYC estimate for a dog this size and coat. Excludes the adoption fee and anything unexpected.
Fully grown at about 65 lbs.
Memo is a 60 lb. Pit and Boxer mix. Memo’s deaf but is not defined by his differing ability. He’s incredibly affectionate, wonderfully silly, and navigates his quiet world with curiosity. He is a floppy boy, his dad used to call him “soft serve”. He loves to snuggle, sunbathe in any available window, and watch over his kingdom. He knows some basic commands but would benefit from a refresher to help them get back into a routine with his new family. Memo would do best in a home with no cats or children; he doesn’t have experience with either. A quieter neighborhood is much better for him, the busy Manhattan streets, sirens, and crowds are overwhelming for a deaf dog. On the busier streets he’s been reactive on walks, mom has been using a gentle leader harness which helps. He will do best with a handler who uses patient, positive reinforcement to guide him through triggers. Memo is approximately 4y 11m 2d old and may be 50 to 60 pounds when fully grown. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done. Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble. It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog. This dog is available for adoption through Muddy Paws Rescue. If you're interested in adopting, the first thing you should do is begin the registration process at www.muddypawsrescue.org. This dog's breed isn't known, so here's general guidance for mixes.
🧠 Temperament
He’s incredibly affectionate, wonderfully silly, and navigates his quiet world with curiosity. Every dog is an individual — temperament depends far more on this dog's history and personality than on breed.
🎾 Exercise
On the busier streets he’s been reactive on walks, mom has been using a gentle leader harness which helps. Most adult dogs do well with 30-60 minutes of walking a day plus play and sniffing time.
✂️ Grooming
Brush regularly, bathe as needed, keep nails trimmed and ears clean.
🏙️ In a NYC apartment
It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog. Ask the rescue about leash manners, elevator and stair comfort, alone-time tolerance, and whether the dog settles in a small space.
