My name is Basilisk. I am a male, white Chihuahua - Smooth Coated mix. I have been at the shelter since Jun 24, 2026. Hi, I’m Basilisk ???? I’m a 6-year-old Chihuahua who was found as a stray. Thankfully, a kind person took me in and cared for me for a few weeks while trying to figure out what to do next. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to keep me forever, so I eventually made my way to the shelter. During my time with my finder, I lived with several other dogs and got along very well with all of them. Because of that, I’d likely do great in a home with canine companions, though I’d also be happy as the center of attention. I’m a sweet little guy, but I can be a bit nervous when it comes to leash walking. The world can feel like a big place sometimes, and I’m still working on building my confidence. With patience, encouragement, and a little extra TLC, I think I’ll learn that walks can actually be pretty fun. My future family should also know that the vet noted I have Grade 2 dental disease. While I’m feeling good and ready for adoption, my new owner should be prepared to schedule some dental work to help keep my mouth healthy and comfortable. Basilisk may be small, but he has a big heart and is ready to find a family that will help him continue building confidence and enjoying the good life. If you're looking for a sweet little companion who just needs a bit of guidance and love, Basilisk would love to meet you ??????? Basilisk is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $500.00, plus $8.50 for the dog license if you are a resident of NYC. Basilisk will also get one free exam with one of our participating veterinarians within 30 days of his adoption. If you'd like to meet him please visit, we're conveniently located in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn near the F train (Ft Hamilton Pkwy) and the B16 bus. We're open daily for adoptions from 11am to 5:30pm. Basilisk can't wait to meet you! 🧠 Temperament
I’m a sweet little guy, but I can be a bit nervous when it comes to leash walking. Bold and deeply bonded to one or two people.
🎾 Exercise
With patience, encouragement, and a little extra TLC, I think I’ll learn that walks can actually be pretty fun. Low — short walks and indoor play are plenty.
✂️ Grooming
Easy for both smooth and long coats. Dental care is the real priority; small breeds are prone to tooth disease.
🏙️ In a NYC apartment
The world can feel like a big place sometimes, and I’m still working on building my confidence. Extremely apartment-friendly and easy to carry on the subway.
