Max is a 4-year-old, 15-pound Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix from New York City who is equal parts playful sidekick and professional snuggler. Affectionate, loyal, and full of personality, Max loves being part of whatever his people are doing. He's always up for a neighborhood walk or a good play session with his favorite toys, but he's equally happy settling in for some quality couch time. His beloved rabbit toy is rarely far behind! Max has adjusted beautifully to life in his Brooklyn foster home. He's house-trained, sleeps through the night in his crate, and does well crated during the day without barking or whining. He's also a smart little guy who has been working on "sit," "lay down," "crate," and even "blanket", his designated cozy spot on the couch. Walks are one of Max's favorite parts of the day. He's a curious guy who believes every interesting smell deserves an investigation, and while he occasionally has his own ideas about which direction the walk should go, he's continuing to work on following his person's lead. At home, Max is loving, playful, and happiest when he's included. He has a great balance of energy: ready to get out and explore when you are, but perfectly capable of settling down and enjoying a quiet day at home. Max is looking for a moderately active family who will continue the great routine and training he's already established. He'd prefer to be the only pet in the home but would be ok with a calm equally sized dog. He is not fond of cats. He can also do well with children in an attentive, respectful home. If you're looking for a small dog with a big personality who can join you for an adventure and then happily curl up beside you afterward, Max might be your guy. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Diesel, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org

Chihuahua

🧠 Temperament

Affectionate, loyal, and full of personality, Max loves being part of whatever his people are doing. Bold and deeply bonded to one or two people.

🎾 Exercise

He's always up for a neighborhood walk or a good play session with his favorite toys, but he's equally happy settling in for some quality couch time. Low — short walks and indoor play are plenty.

✂️ Grooming

Easy for both smooth and long coats. Dental care is the real priority; small breeds are prone to tooth disease.
