My name is Chipmunk. I am a male, brown American Pit Bull Terrier mix. I have been at the shelter since Aug 26, 2026. Hi, I’m Chipmunk! First of all, let's address the name. I'm Chipmunk. I'm also a large 2-year-old Pit Bull. So no, I am not particularly chipmunk-sized. I was found all alone, tied to a fence in Prospect Park. Someone noticed I'd been there for quite a while, realized nobody was coming back for me, and thankfully brought me to safety. Despite that lousy experience, I'm a friendly, enthusiastic guy who's very excited about life. Sometimes... a little TOO excited. You see, I have this habit. I jump. I jump when I'm excited. I jump when I want attention. I jump because you're standing there and apparently I have decided that the best way to say hello is to launch a whole lot of Pit Bull in your general direction. Everyone here has been working with me on keeping four paws on the floor, and I'm learning! But this is something my future family will absolutely need to continue working on. As funny as my enthusiasm can sometimes be, please don't encourage the jumping. I'm a big, strong dog, and good manners are important. Because of my size, energy, and current jumping habits, I'm not appropriate for a home with young children. I'm also looking for an experienced dog owner who understands training and is ready to provide me with structure, consistency, exercise, and plenty of appropriate outlets for all this enthusiasm. I'm not a ready-made couch potato. I'm a project with potential. I need training. I need exercise. I need boundaries. And most importantly, I need someone who's actually excited to put in that work with me. Underneath all that exuberant energy is a nice guy who got dealt a pretty lousy hand when someone left him tied to a fence. Chipmunk deserves better than that. He's looking for an experienced person who's ready to help turn one very enthusiastic, slightly airborne Pit Bull into the fantastic dog we know he can become. Four paws on the floor, Chipmunk. We're working on it. Chipmunk is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $500.00, plus $8.50 for the dog license if you are a resident of NYC. Chipmunk will also get one free exam with one of our participating veterinarians within 30 days of his adoption. If you'd like to meet him please visit, we're conveniently located in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn near the F train (Ft Hamilton Pkwy) and the B16 bus. We're open daily for adoptions from 11am to 5:30pm. Chipmunk can't wait to meet you! American Pit Bull Terrier

🧠 Temperament

Despite that lousy experience, I'm a friendly, enthusiastic guy who's very excited about life. Affectionate, people-loving and often startlingly goofy — pit bull type dogs are typically very social with humans.

🎾 Exercise

I'm also looking for an experienced dog owner who understands training and is ready to provide me with structure, consistency, exercise, and plenty…. High — 60+ minutes daily plus chew and puzzle outlets.

✂️ Grooming

Very easy. Short coat, minimal shedding, thin coat means a winter jacket.

🏙️ In a NYC apartment

I was found all alone, tied to a fence in Prospect Park. The main obstacle is paperwork, not the dog: many buildings and insurers restrict pit bull type dogs, and enforcement is based on appearance.
