My name is Starlight. I am a female, black Chihuahua - Smooth Coated mix. I have been at the shelter since Oct 01, 2026. Hi, I’m Starlight! I'm Starlight, a 3-year-old Chihuahua mix, and I have some very exciting news! I AM AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF! Did everybody hear that? Good. JUST MAKING SURE. I ended up at the shelter because my previous owner started college and simply didn't have enough time for me anymore. Which is unfortunate because I happen to be a VERY GOOD GIRL. I'm sweet as pie! I love people! I get along wonderfully with just about everybody! I'm adorable! I'm conveniently travel-sized! Honestly, my résumé is pretty fantastic. There is, however, one small issue. Well... SMALL DOG. BIG ISSUE. I HAVE A LOT TO SAY. Someone walks past? WOOF! Someone comes through the door? WOOF WOOF! Interesting noise? ATTENTION, EVERYONE! Something happens that I feel the household should be aware of? I WILL BE ISSUING A FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT. Look, I may be little, but I take my responsibilities as Director of Household Communications VERY seriously. Unfortunately, I've been informed that not every single event requires a press conference. NEWS TO ME. That's where my future family comes in! I need someone with patience, consistency, and a willingness to work on my barking through positive training. Please don't adopt me thinking that because I'm tiny, my manners don't matter. They do! I want to learn when it's appropriate to use my voice and when I can simply relax and let the world go about its business without my commentary. And while we're discussing my size... Yes, I'm little. Yes, I'm adorable. Yes, I fit beautifully into the category of PERFECT TRAVEL-SIZED PAL. But I'm still a dog! I want walks. I want adventures. I want exercise. I want attention. I want to be part of somebody's life, not just something cute to carry around. I'm three years old, which means I've moved past the wild baby-puppy stage but still have so many wonderful years ahead of me. I'm friendly. I'm affectionate. I'm adaptable. And with a little work on my volume control, I have everything I need to become somebody's absolutely wonderful companion. So if you're looking for a sweet little dog with a big personality and an even bigger voice... I'M YOUR GIRL! I'm Starlight. I'm ready for my forever home. And I would like to conclude this adoption advertisement with one final statement: WOOF WOOF WOOF! Translation: PLEASE COME ADOPT ME. Starlight is spayed, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vaccines. Her adoption fee is $650, plus $8.50 for the dog license if you are a resident of NYC. Starlight will also get one free exam with one of our participating veterinarians within 30 days of his adoption. If you'd like to meet her please visit, we're conveniently located in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn near the F train (Ft Hamilton Pkwy) and the B16 bus. We're open daily for adoptions from 11am to 5:30pm. Starlight can't wait to meet you! 🧠 Temperament
If you're looking for a sweet little dog with a big personality and an even bigger voice... Bold and deeply bonded to one or two people.
🎾 Exercise
Low — short walks and indoor play are plenty.
✂️ Grooming
Easy for both smooth and long coats. Dental care is the real priority; small breeds are prone to tooth disease.
🏙️ In a NYC apartment
Extremely apartment-friendly and easy to carry on the subway. They get cold fast and need a sweater most of the winter.
