My name is Stix. I am a male, brown English Coonhound (Redtick Coonhound) mix. I have been at the shelter since Oct 04, 2026. Hi, I’m Stix! ???? I'm Stix, a 10-month-old Hound mix, and I have a LOT going on. Where should we begin? Oh! You're here! HI!!! I'll stand between your legs. Actually, I'll stand in front of you. Wait. IS THAT A TRUCK?! WHAT IS THAT?! WE SHOULD GO THE OTHER WAY. Quickly! ...Oh. Never mind. EVERYTHING IS FINE. Anyway... WANNA BE BEST FRIENDS?! ?? Welcome to my brain. It's a busy place. I'm a very sweet, friendly young dog who gets along wonderfully with people, but sometimes the world is just... A LOT. There's stuff happening EVERYWHERE. Noises! Movement! People! Vehicles! Things I've never seen! Things I have seen but apparently need to reconsider! My little Hound brain is processing approximately six million pieces of information at any given moment, and sometimes the resulting decision is: MOVE!!! Where? Doesn't matter. WE'LL FIGURE THAT OUT ON THE WAY. I'm not mean. I'm not looking for trouble. I'm actually an incredibly sweet guy who wants to make friends and have fun! I'm just... A BIT OF A HOT MESS. And because I'm still only ten months old, I need someone who can help me learn how to navigate this big exciting world without my brain exploding every twelve seconds. I need training. I need structure. I need consistency. I need exercise. I need someone calm enough to say: "Stix. Buddy. We're fine." And help me realize: Oh. Okay. We're fine. For that reason, I probably wouldn't be the ideal choice for a first-time dog owner. I need someone who understands dog behavior, is comfortable handling a young energetic dog, and actually enjoys the process of turning a slightly chaotic teenager into a confident, well-mannered adult. Because underneath all this... THERE IS A REALLY GOOD DOG. I'm friendly. I'm social. I'm sweet. I like everybody. I've got tons of potential. I just need somebody to help organize all the thoughts bouncing around inside my head. With patience, training, and structure, I think I could become one heck of a companion. Okay. Great talk. I feel like we really connected. We're making progress. Everything is calm. I'm focused. I'm— OH MY GOD WHAT WAS THAT?! Never mind. LET'S GO INVESTIGATE. Stix is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $500.00, plus $8.50 for the dog license if you are a resident of NYC. Stix will also get one free exam with one of our participating veterinarians within 30 days of his adoption. If you'd like to meet him please visit, we're conveniently located in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn near the F train (Ft Hamilton Pkwy) and the B16 bus. We're open daily for adoptions from 11am to 5:30pm. Stix can't wait to meet you! This dog's breed isn't known, so here's general guidance for mixes.
🧠 Temperament
I'm a very sweet, friendly young dog who gets along wonderfully with people, but sometimes the world is just... Every dog is an individual — temperament depends far more on this dog's history and personality than on breed.
🎾 Exercise
Most adult dogs do well with 30-60 minutes of walking a day plus play and sniffing time.
✂️ Grooming
Brush regularly, bathe as needed, keep nails trimmed and ears clean.
🏙️ In a NYC apartment
Ask the rescue about leash manners, elevator and stair comfort, alone-time tolerance, and whether the dog settles in a small space.
