Sugar Pea 🫛 3 y/o male | 8 lbs | Chi Mix Sugar Pea makes the saying, “good things come in small packages", true! Sugar Pea was rescued by the ACC as a stray and was a nervous baby. Once Waggytail heard of this little guy, he was taken to his foster family where he could thrive. He was at first scared when he arrived at his foster home, but after time to decompress, a more comfortable and confident pup he became. And he was ready to be part of all the action! However, Sugar Pea is an independent little guy who doesn’t mind relaxing and watching you from afar in a comfy place. He will let you know when he would like your attention with his soulful, flirty eyes. He is more of a receiver than giver when it comes to affection. One and done is his kissing style and then you can rub his head or chest until he’s ready to take another nap. He is low-key at home with his foster sister who likes to have his attention. He will tease her with play bows and then walk away to steal her comfy place. (It just became available!) Since he is always a gentleman to her (in other ways), she doesn’t mind. Not only does he look like part mouse, he is quiet like a mouse, with only squeaks or whines when he has something to say. His favorite thing is to go for a walk and get snacks in return. He will excitedly meet you at the door and sit for you to get him ready for a walk about town. This friendly boy walks with swagger and will say hello to all people who pass. You may hear the sound of the Bee Gees’ Staying Alive, as he walks down the street. Perhaps that’s what he hears because the sounds of the city don’t bother him at all. He only may get nervous walking down a crowded street, but who can blame him for not wanting to get stepped on! In stores and cafes, he prefers to be carried or in his carrier with his head out to check out everything. Like we said, he doesn’t want to miss out on anything! If you’re looking for company on the couch, a fellow snack lover, who likes walks around the city and you don’t mind a heartbreaker, he may be your guy. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Sugar Pea, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org

Chihuahua

🧠 Temperament

Sugar Pea was rescued by the ACC as a stray and was a nervous baby. Bold and deeply bonded to one or two people.

🎾 Exercise

He will tease her with play bows and then walk away to steal her comfy place. Low — short walks and indoor play are plenty.

✂️ Grooming

Easy for both smooth and long coats. Dental care is the real priority; small breeds are prone to tooth disease.

🏙️ In a NYC apartment

Not only does he look like part mouse, he is quiet like a mouse, with only squeaks or whines when he has something to say. Extremely apartment-friendly and easy to carry on the subway.
